This knowledge hub has been developed as a resource for communities seeking sustainable and regenerative tourism development. The hub provides information, tools, and tips on:
- Foundations of Tourism Development: This section includes information on business development, marketing, and product development for small tourism businesses and destinations.
- Regenerative and Sustainable Tourism: This section provides information on how to incorporate regenerative and sustainable tourism practices in small tourism businesses and emerging destinations.
- Colca Valley Showcase: The knowledge hub also showcases three destinations in the Colca Valley – Sibayo, Yanque, and Madrigal. These destination communities were the focus of the Arequipa Nexus Institute – Phase 3 Project: Sustainable Development through Regenerative Tourism: A Pilot Program on the Colca Valley High Route. The showcase highlights these destinations and products from communities working towards the goal of developing sustainable, regenerative tourism in their region.
The Colca Valley is emerging as an important attraction in Peru’s portfolio of world-class destinations. This pilot project is designed to support destination leaders and tourism business owners in developing sustainable, regenerative tourism in the region.
The challenges addressed in this project are common to many destinations in Peru. While each community will have unique responses based on stakeholder concerns, the research approach, diagnostics, tools, and training materials will be designed for use in communities throughout the country – and beyond.
